Vacuum System Design, Engineering & Testing

Vacuum System Design, Engineering & Testing

Mihana Tech brings decades of hands-on expertise in low-pressure vacuum system engineering. From initial design and component specification through to outgassing assessment, vacuum integrity testing and long-term stability validation, we support vacuum systems across research, industrial and advanced manufacturing contexts. The same rigour we apply to VIG cavity science underpins everything we do with vacuum technology.

What We Offer

System Design & Specification

Vacuum system layout, pump selection, component specification and pressure regime analysis for new systems or redesigns. We help you get the design right before you commit to hardware.

Outgassing Assessment

Quantitative outgassing characterisation of materials, components and assemblies. Critical for systems where base pressure, contamination control or long-term vacuum stability are design requirements.

Vacuum Integrity Testing

Leak detection, pressure rise testing and seal assessment for vacuum vessels, chambers and product enclosures. We identify failure modes and provide clear engineering recommendations.

Residual Gas Analysis (RGA)

Mass spectrometric characterisation of vacuum chamber atmospheres. Identify contaminant species, diagnose pump behaviour, assess seal integrity and validate cleanliness to process requirements.

Process Validation & Troubleshooting

Independent assessment of existing vacuum processes. We diagnose underperformance, identify root causes and provide practical solutions grounded in vacuum physics — not guesswork.

Long-Term Stability & Lifetime Assessment

Monitoring and modelling of vacuum evolution over time, including getter performance, seal degradation and pressure rise prediction. Directly applicable to VIG manufacturing and sealed product development.

Applications

Our vacuum system expertise spans a wide range of application areas. Key fields we regularly support include:

Thin-film deposition systems VIG cavity design & manufacturing Surface treatment & cleaning processes Scientific instrumentation Electron microscopy & analytical tools Cryogenic vacuum systems Vacuum furnaces & heat treatment Sealed product lifetime prediction Industrial process chambers R&D prototype systems

Technical Capabilities

Residual Gas Analysis (RGA)

Quadrupole mass spectrometry for vacuum atmosphere characterisation. We use RGA to identify outgassing species, detect leak signatures, assess pump behaviour and validate process cleanliness. This is a core diagnostic tool for any system where gas composition at low pressure matters.

Pressure range: high vacuum to ultra-high vacuum regimes.

Outgassing Rate Measurement

Quantitative measurement of outgassing flux from materials, components and assemblies using established vacuum techniques. Results directly inform material selection, bake-out protocols and pump sizing decisions.

Pressure Rise & Leak Testing

Controlled pressure-rise measurement to assess seal quality, identify leak paths and quantify throughput. Applicable to both newly fabricated systems and in-service equipment requiring condition assessment.

Vacuum System Modelling

Analytical and numerical modelling of vacuum system performance including conductance calculations, pump-down curve prediction, ultimate pressure estimation and throughput analysis. Supports both design decisions and diagnosis of underperforming systems.

Surface & Materials Analysis

Integration with our broader surface analysis suite — XPS, SEM, ellipsometry, spectrophotometry and profilometry — allows vacuum system work to be combined with detailed characterisation of surfaces, coatings and processed materials.

See our Facilities page for the full analytical capability list.
